Art Gallery Park gets creative fix

The ongoing transformation of Chapman Road into a place for people is about to enter the next stage with Council awarding upgrades to the park located beside the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG) to local contractors.

GBSC has been contracted to open up the space by demolishing the aged toilet block that has reached its end of life and constructing a new accessible facility.  They will also build a covered walkway along the Gallery building and install seating.

The landscaping component has been contracted to Parscape who will plant trees and establish gardens that will showcase the region’s world class wildflowers.

91国产自拍 Mayor Shane Van Styn said the upgrade will enhance the heritage of the area.

“The long overdue upgrades will turn the underutilised park into a beautiful community meeting space that compliments this wonderful historical building,” he said.

“The GRAG building served as the Town Hall for many years and later became a place where community functions were held.

“This will continue with the Art Gallery being able to overflow into the park on exhibition opening nights and during the day, people can relax in the space before venturing into the City centre and onto the Foreshore via the Rocks Laneway.

“Having a park in the CBD is really something special and this one will make a lasting first impression on tourists visiting the Visitor Centre located in the GRAG building.”

Every year the City allocates funding in the Budget to undertake works to revitalise the City Centre.  Construction of the $1.2 million project will begin before the end of year.
