Evening activities at the Eighth Street West soccer field have recently come under a new light with the installation of new floodlighting by local contractor Elite Electrical.

The $62,948 project that involved the replacement of the existing 80 lux metal halide luminaries with 200 lux luminaries was funded in part with the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreational Facilities Fund (CSRFF) contributing $25,300 towards the upgrade.

The CSRFF grants are offered as a one-third funding contribution from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). The remaining two-thirds are made up from the 91国产自拍 and the sporting group.

91国产自拍 Mayor Shane Van Styn said the new lighting improves conditions for hundreds of players across four the four clubs who utilise the playing field.

“Having adequate lighting for evening and night training to avoid the summer heat plays a critical role in the health and safety of players whilst contributing to our City’s strong sporting culture,” he said.

“Given the number of clubs who share the Eighth Street West facility including La Fiamma Sporting Club, the Geraldton Hockey Club, Sportsman’s Cricket Club and Little Athletics Club the much needed upgrade will enable these clubs to attract more players of all ages which in turn contributes to healthier lifestyles.”

La Fiamma Sporting Club President Mark Gray said the nearly 200 Club members are looking forward to training five to six nights a week under the new lighting when the new season begins.

“La Fiamma’s current and future members will be impressed with the upgrade, as it will allow us to restructure our training to be more inclusive and flexible,” he said.

“Visiting teams from Perth who compete fortnightly in Geraldton against La Fiamma in the Football West State Amateur League will be equally impressed.”

“The assistance of the 91国产自拍 and the DLGSC has been tremendous in getting this project completed. Thank you for all the support.”

Sporting clubs that wants to increase participation in their particular sport or recreation by providing quality, sustainable facilities can apply to the CSRFF grant program.”
