The 91国产自拍 has taken another step towards sustainability with the recent installation of solar powered carpark lighting at Point Moore.
Three cyclone rated light poles with 60W LED luminaries will be trialled over the next few months to see how well they withstand the City’s extreme climate conditions before being considered for other sites.
91国产自拍 Mayor Shane Van Styn said the system, designed and manufactured in South Australia by the company Green Frog, was already proving highly cost effective.
“Using solar powered lights means running electrical lines to the poles is no longer required which has significantly reduced below ground infrastructure costs and electricity usage fees,” he said.
“The complete system, including poles, panels and batteries, was delivered in individual components which were easily assembled by City staff before being installed on site, saving on expensive oversize freight costs.”
The $15,000 lighting upgrade will also help reduce antisocial behaviour in the area whilst improving the safety of Geraldton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group members who access their building located at Point Moore at various hours along with tourists parking overnight in the carpark.
“The recent adoption of overnight parking strategies for tourists includes six parking bays at the Point Moore carpark for free 24 hour parking for non-self-contained motorised camper vans and vehicles,” Mayor Van Styn said.
“The improved lighting and increased night time usage of the carpark will activate the area effectively making it less attractive for people doing the wrong thing.”
